OFA Advances Class C Finals Match With Gouverneur

Sharing the wealth on offense continued to draw big dividends for OFA on Friday night as the Blue Devils scored 38 points in the first half and downed St. Lawrence Central 46-7 in the Class C semi-finals of the Section 10 Football Tournament.

The win advanced the three-time defending champion Blue Devils into Saturday's 1:30 p.m. title game at top-seeded and undefeated Gouverneur.

In course of building a 38-0 halftime lead: halfback MeSean Johnson and quarterback Jackson Jones threw touchdown passes, Harry Powers ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass, Johnson threw for a touchdown, ran for a touchdown and returned a punt 70 yards to the endzone, Jones completed eight of 10 passes for 150 yards and the OFA defense started a solid outing with a fourth down stop.

"The guys played well and got what we wanted, four more quarters. Now we need a great week of practice to get ready for the challenge of playing an outstanding Gouverneur team," said OFA Coach Matt Tessmer.

"It's about the next game. Playing Gouverneur you have to play with discipline."

In earning a trip to Gouverneur the Blue Devil seniors won their final game on the turf of Ron Johnson Field.

"This was very important to win this game tonight. I love football and I love playing with my teammates." said Harry Powers who continued his upgraded big play production in the month of October as a vital contributor the Devils advancing into November at Gouverneur.

On Friday Powers (4-37 rushing, 3-83 passing) caught a perfectly thrown 61 yard touchdown pass from Jones who went 11 for 16 through the air for 204 yards on a night when the Devil pass rush completely disrupted the Larries' aerial aspirations.

Powers also powered his way into the endzone on a three-yard run run, ran for a two-point conversion, caught a two-point conversion pass from Jones and intercepted an SLC pass in the endzone in the fourth quarter.

"We were counting on Harry Powers for a lot. He is a good football player and has worked very hard starting in the summer," said Coach Tessmer.

MeSean Johnson (6-63 rushing, 3-52 receiving) continued to show game-breaking capabilities throwing a 29-yard option pass to Stephen Morley (3-55 receiving, 3-13 rushing in first half) on OFA's first possession, scoring on a two-yard run and a two-point conversion for a 14-0 first quarter lead and darting through traffic on a cutback to find a lane down the downlines for a 70-yard punt return TD.

After catching a Jones' pass for a two-point conversion and running for another conversion in the second quarter, Tristan Lovely (12-70) tallied OFA's lone touchdown in the second half on a one-yard run in the third quarter.

Quarterback Ansen Weegar, who scrambled well in the face of a swarming OFA pass rush, accounted for the lone SLC (3-5) touchdown taking an 18-yard keeper to the endzone with 9:48 to play. Jarrett St. Hilaire added the PAT kick. Ryan LaPage and Hunter Arquiett anchored the Larrie offense with 89 and 72 yards rushing. LaPage also had a sack on defense.

The OFA defense featured an interception and a sack from Owen Warchol, a sack by Xavier Stewart, three tackles for a loss by Mark Barr, two tackles for a loss by Luc LaFlair and one by Carson Barney.

"I think we have improved a lot since we lost to Gouverneur. Our practices have been very focused," said LaFlair.
