OFA, Canton Tie 5-5 In NAC Central Debut
CANTON - OFA-Canton Boys Soccer games never lack for excitement regardless of the score.
On Thursday the Blue Devils and Golden Bears generated excitement and 10 goals playing to a 5-5 overtime tie on the Bears' Roger Dusharm Field.
After the two teams played to a 3-3 halftime tie the Golden Bears tied the game on a penalty shot by Chris Downs with 4:48 remaining in regulation. Downs also provided the Bears with an early spark assisting on two goals by Nicholas Eastbrooks. Connor Griffith led the OFA offense setting up two Karson LaRose goals in the first half and then scoring from Holden Woods in the second half. Woods also set up a Connor Smith goal for OFA's fifth tally.
Cooper Garvey scored the Devils' first goal off a Kam Johnson assist.
Colin Taylor scored third third Canton goal and set up Ethan Furnia on the fourth tally.
"There were a lot of young mistakes and the game was a little sloppy but both teams played hard," said OFA Coach Matt Morley.
"We did a lot of nice things but had some defensive breakdowns. We are young and are going to have some growing pains."
Dave Vernsey and Trent Lovely combined for 10 saves with Lovely playing the second half and the overtime. Andrew Franklin had 10 saves for Canton.
OFA will return to action on Monday hosting Salmon River.
In other NAC Central action Massena downed Malone 2-0 and in NAC East action it was Chateaugay 2, Norwood-Norfolk 0 and St. Lawrence Central 10, St. Regis Falls 1.
