OFA Cheerleaders Win First Grand Championship
POTSDAM - The OFA Cheerleaders enjoyed an historic performance on Friday night at a Section 10 Qualifying Competition at SUNY Potsdam.
The Devils outscored Lisbon 76.35-74.25 to earn Large Team Division honors and in logging the top score of the night OFA gained its first Grand Championship in a competition since the inception of Section 10 Competitive Cheerleading.
"The Girls did awesome, we are very proud of them. We did a few changes with the dance and cheer from Sunday (at OFA Competition) and the girls pulled it off. They worked hard and it paid off," said OFA Coach Jackie Pinkerton speaking for herself and Assistant Coach Victoria Peabody.
"Every competition is a new one and we will work hard and show our spirit each and every time."
Copenhagen scored 74.425 points to lead the Co-Ed Division and narrowly shaded Lisbon for the second place overall. Madrid-Waddington at 66.725 took second in the Co-Ed Division and Edwards-Knox placed third at 58.8. Clifton-Fine took fourth at 58.175.
Heuvelton scored 64.035 to top the Small Team Division following up a first place at the OFA Competition on Sunday. Malone took second at 63.55 and Gouverneur placed third with 61.9 points in an eight team field.
Other teams in the Small Team field were: Brushton-Moira 34.65, Morristown 44.625, Peru 58.875, St. Lawrence Central 37.125 and Saranac Central 58.825.
"I’m proud of the way my team performed. They definitely gave it their all and you could feel the energy. OFA outscored them tonight, they looked really good and made a few changes that helped their score. We are looking forward to regrouping and making the changes we need to make to get our score up a bit," said Lisbon Coach Jordan Woodside.
The Cheerleading schedule resumes on Feb. 16 at the Edwards-Knox Competition.
