OFA Girls Control Opener, Host Massena Friday

OFA made a delayed opening to its NAC Central Girls Basketball season and its offense and defense kicked in off the center jump as the Lady Blue Devils downed Salmon River 65-6.

"We played good defense tonight and the thing I liked the best was the way we passed the ball. Everyone is picking up how we want to move the ball," said OFA Coach Doug Loffler.

"In our division you have to come out strong and we will need to do that against Massena. Salmon River is rebuilding but they played hard all the way."

Freshman Abby Raven led the winning offense scoring 15 points in her varsity debut, scored six points in a 23-point first quarter and grabbed four steals. Riley Hough delivered 10 points, eight rebounds and and six steals, Gabby Morley scored eight points with six steals and Emily Farrand (5 steals, 5 assists, 4 rebounds), Celia Henry (3 steals) and Hailey Reed (4 steals) all scored seven points.

Grace Hilborne netted six points followed by: Brinley Frederick (4 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals) with four points and Samara LaFlair, Paige Pinkerton and Emma LeBeau with two.

Kiyaha Thompson scored five points for Salmon River and Mia Leroux added two.

In other Central games of the night Gouverneur downed Malone 47-36 and Massena downed Potsdam 47-35.

Gouverneur 47 - Malone 36: The Wildcats raised their Central Division record to 2-0 with a strong defensive efforts and an offense led by Laney Smith with 13 points and Reilin Burns with 10 points. Ciera Besaw tallied seven and Shantelle Sweet added six followed by Tori Salisbury (2), Gibson (3) and Shacoria Jackson (4).

Leaha Gallager led Malone with 18 points and Madison Ansari and Mackenzie Lane added eight and six points.
