OFA Cruises To Tough Vball Win; M-W Prevails

After securing a 25-20 first set win, OFA cruised to wins of 25-9, 25-15 to post a 3-0 straight set win over previously undefeated NAC West Volleyball foe Potsdam (1-1 West, 4-1) at home on Wednesday.
At times the Lady Devils (2-0 NAC West, 4-0) made it look easy in staying unbeaten in the NAC heading into this weekend's Lake Placid Tournament.
"It wasn't easy. Potsdam is a very good defensive team with two exceptional hitters and several outstanding players," said OFA Coach Sue McLean.
"We really had to work for everything but we played really well and we played really relaxed. This team receives as well as any that I have coached and their passing was exceptional tonight. We only had five errors on our 46 hits and 61 percent of our hits went for kills which is really good. And we only had three errors on 58 serves which is 95 per cent and extremely good. Our veterans in Melissa Barr, Rosie Jeneault, Celia Henry and Emily Farrand have been really solid all season and tonight our newbies as I call them Jordyn Tupper, Abby Raven, April LeBeau, Jenna Mitchell and Gabby Morley all stepped up. Jordyn Tupper had a break-through game in terms of playing excellent defense while running our offense."
An offense which was led by Rosie Jeneault with 10 points, 1 ace 13 kills and 1 block; Jordyn Tupper with 17 assists, Emily Farrand with 10 points, 1 ace, 4 kills and 1 block, Jhenna Mitchell with 10 points, 3 aces and one assist and Abby Raven with 8 points, 1 ace and 4 kills.
"It is easy to play when you enjoy who you are playing with and this team really enjoys their time together. Everyone beings something to help us succeed" said Coach McLean.
Rounding out the Devils cohesive effort were: Emma LeBeau with 5 points, 3 aces, 1 kill, 3 digs and 1 assist; Gabrielle Morley with 4 points, 3 aces and 3 kills, Celia Henry with 2 points, 1 ace, 3 kills and 5 assists and Melissa Barr with 7 digs.
MW 3 - Gouv 1: The Yellow Jackets prevailed at home 25-18, 19-25, 25-14, 25-22.
"Total team effort, great relief serving from two seniors in Kelsey Forbes 10 serving points and Julia Cochran 11 serving points," said M-W Coach Troy Creurer.
"Gouverneur had a solid night and we really had work hard to get the win in some exciting volleyball.
Sarah Weaver had 11 serving points, senior Marissa Hawkins had 5 kills and 10 assists, and senior Katie Bateman 6 kills, 4 blocks to lead M-W which visits Canton on Thursday..
Other Matches: In other NAC matches of the night Malone downed Salmon River 3-1, Chateaugay prevailed over Massena 3-2 and Tupper Lake swept Brushton-Moira 3-0.
