OFA Shows Improvement In Baseball, Girls Lax

As the OFA Baseball and Girls Lacrosse teams entered the Memorial Day Weekend, their respective 2021 Northern Conference seasons would not be characterized as memorable.

But both Blue Devils bands noted improvement on Thursday as the baseball team dropped a 8-3 decision at Malone and the Lady Laxers dropped a 16-3 decision to Massena.

JV CALLUPS HELP BASEBALL OUTLOOK

After being shut out by Malone starter Logan Spaulding through five innings, OFA (0-9) scored three runs in the sixth to cut the difference to 7-3. But Patrick Poupore cooled the Devils' comeback hopes pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

Eli Race lined a triple and two singles and Harrison Hungerford and Jordan Perry (double) each delivered two hits for Malone (5-4). Logan Spaulding also tripled for the Huskies and Brock Spaulding added a double.

Ryan Mitchell started on the mound for OFA and rapped a single and a triple. Derek Barr singled twice, Shea Polniak lined a two-run single and Camden Griffith singled.

"We showed much improvement today. We brought up two JV players in Shea Polniak and Camden Griffith and they both contributed today," said OFA Coach Larry Mehaffy.

"Shea got his first hit with two RBIs in his only at-bat".

FOSTER CONTINUE STELLAR GOALTENDING FOR OFA

Ellie Foster continued her heroic goaltending for OFA (1-10) stopped 26 shots against a dynamic Massena attack.

"Ellie Foster continues to play very and overall we were better tonight," said OFA Coach Matt Curatolo who will lead his team to Heuvelton on Thursday.

Paige Merz scored OFA's first goal from Jaedyn Awan and set up Paige LaRock for the second tally. Brinley Frederick delivered OFA's only goal in the second half unassisted.

Jeanelle Burke provided Massena (9-2) with dynamic offensive leadership with three goals and four assists and Hailey LaShomb delivered four goals. Kathryn Mayer came through with three goals and Gabrielle Thomas made five saves in the Raiders' goal.

Other Massena scoring came from: Madison Ward (1 goal), Delaney McCarthy (2 assists), Sab ella Cromie (1 goal), Elia Oakes (1 goal), Skarlett Wilson (1 goal) and Lisa LaShomb (2 goals).
