Ogdensburg Sixth Graders Win Classic In Classic
The 2020 Dave Shea Boys Hoop Classic produced a classic ending as the Ogdensburg Hoops' Sixth Graders gained a 45-44 win over Potsdam Youth Basketball which was not decided until a driving shot at the buzzer bounced of the rim.
Blake Morrill's two free throws gave Ogdensburg a 45-41 lead in the waning seconds. Potsdam's Ian VanWagner raced down the court and buried a long three from the top of the arc. After a missed Ogdensburg free throw VanWagner went the length of the floor for a contested driving shot which rimmed out at the buzzer.
"This was such a great game and Potsdam is a really good team. I am just so proud of my guys because they have worked so hard in practices and play so hard," said Ogdensburg Coach Connor Sutton after his team finished as undefeated champions of the the Sixth Grade Division.
"We should have more great games with Potsdam and I am looking forward to it".
The Fifth Grade Division saw Ogdensburg and Potsdam each finish with one loss and Potsdam take first place by the tie-breaker format.
The Ogdensburg Fifth and Sixth Grade teams will play in area tournaments before hosting the George Swan Memorial Tournament in February which is a fund-raiser for the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club.
