Onondaga Community College Shuts Down Fall Sports
Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come. Onondaga Community College has decided to shut down the 2020 fall sports season as the head of the Lazers athletic department.
"It was a very difficult decision," said the school's athletic director to the media on Friday.
"We know how important athletics are to our nearly 300 student-athletes. For a lot of them, it's one of the main reasons they choose to come here and get their education, so my heart aches for all of our student-athletes impacted by this. But ultimately it's for their benefit and for their safety and well-being that we chose to go down this path." OCCC AD Mike Borsz took part in a conference call with the NJCAA's athletic directors across Region III, admitting Onondaga Community College was one of four more schools to go ahead and cancel fall sports all together.
The plans are set for the winter season.
"We're hoping but it's going to have to be a wait and see approach," he concluded in a conference call.
