OFA sets first fall sports team practices

Although it seems that final Spring sports action was just completed, Ogdensburg Free Academy has preparations in place for the 2019 fall sports season.

The first practices for all varsity and modified sports have been scheduled and hours have been scheduled in the Health Office for student-athletes to be medically cleared to participate in practices.

The schedule for practices and for Health Office hours follow.

FALL PRACTICES

BEGIN AUG. 19

Varsity Cheerleading: Coach Jackie Pinkerton has called her first practice for Monday., Aug. 19 at 9 am at the Golden Dome

Varsity Boys Soccer: Coach Matt Morley has called the first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 7 am at the OFA Turf.

JV Boys Soccer: Coach Justin Fishel has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 7: am at the OFA JV Soccer Field.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Julie Hynes has called her first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 11 am at the OFA Turf field

JV Girls Soccer: Doug Loffler has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 9:00 am at the OFA JV Soc Field

Varsity Swimming: Coach John Tebo has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 7:00 am at the OFA Pool

Varsity Cross Country: Coach Chris McRoberts has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 9:00 am in front of school (by OFA flag pole)

Varsity Football: Coach Matt Tessmer has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 8:00 am at the Golden Dome/OFA Turf

JV Football: Coach Gerry Sawyer, Jr. has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 8:00 am at the Golden Dome/Back Field

Varsity Volleyball: Coach Sue McLean has called her first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 at 7:30 am at the OFA Main Gym

JV Volleyball: Coach Jon Cole has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 19 8:30 am at the OFA Small Gym

Modified Cross Country: Coach Dianne Jeneault has called her first practice for Mon., Aug. 26 at 9:00 am in front of the school by the flag ple.

Modified Football: Coach Jon Frederick has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 26 at 8:00 am at the Golden Dome

Modified. Boys Soccer: Coach Doug Farley has called his first practice for Mon., Aug. 26 at 9:30 am at Madill School

Modified. Girls Soccer: Coach Renee Tebo Mon., has called her first practice for Aug. 26 at 8:30 am Kennedy School

Modified. Swimming: Coach Andee West has called her first practice for Mon., Aug. 26 at 9:00 am OFA Pool

Modified. Volleyball: Coach April Spooner has called her first practice for Mon., Aug. 26 4:00 pm OFA Small Gym

PERMISSION SLIPS

AVAILABLE ON-LONE

A Sports Participation Health Permission Slip (for the 2019-2020 Fall Sports Season) may be picked up in the OFA Health Office or High School Office. The completed form must be submitted to a Nurse, in the OFA Health Office on one of the above referenced dates.

In addition, for your convenience, you may access the required forms online: · Log on to the Ogdensburg City School District website at http://www.ogdensburgk12.org

· From the tool bar along the top of the homepage, select “Athletics”

· On the right side of the page, under “Required Forms”, you will need to scroll down and select the forms needed (parent/guardians and student-athletes must complete/submit the following three (3) forms):

1. Parent & Athlete Concussion Information Sheet

2. Required NYS School Health Examination Form

3. Ogdensburg City School District Eligibility Policies

Please be advised… A student-athlete will not be allowed to begin practicing with an OFA sports team until and unless he/she has a clearance slip, from the OFA School Nurse, verifying that he/she has completed everything and is cleared/given permission to begin participating on an OFA sports team.

REMINDER: If a child requires medication (i.e. Epi-pen or inhaler), he/she will not be allowed to practice without a current self-directed order from the athlete’s primary care physician and corresponding medication. Both the self-directed order and the medication must be presented to the OFA Health Office on one of the above referenced dates in order for the student-athlete to participate on his/her first day of practice. **If the student-athlete requires the use of an Epi-pen, two (2) devices need to be provided to school personnel; one (1) to be stored in the OFA Health Office and one (1) to be given to his/her respective coach. (Please be certain each device is labeled.)
