P-H Shades M-W In An Intense 100-Minute Girls Soccer Duel

PARISHVILLE - The Parishville - Hopkinton Lady Panthers beat Madrid - Waddington Wednesday afternoon, playing until nearly dark  in a double overtime 2 to 1 victory.  The game was a closely contested event throughout until the Lady Panthers established steady pressure during the last fifteen minutes of regulation and two overtime periods. 

Kelly Bloom opened the scoring for the Panthers at the 12:27 mark of the first half, assisted by Loes Thomassen, who slid a pass through the Yellowjackets defense to Bloom, who drove a low shot just inside the far post for the score.  Alexis Sullivan tied the game for Madrid - Waddington by tapping the ball in after a multi-player collision knocked the P - H goalkeeper down and away from the play 13 minutes later.  Lydia Thomas recorded the assist on Sullivan’s goal with a cross from the left side of the penalty area. 

After the sustained pressure created by the Lady Panthers late in regulation, Kelsey Farnsworth turned a long clearing pass from sweeper Emma Bloom into a breakaway chance by sliding a low shot past the Yellowjacket’s keeper just 3 minutes into the first overtime for the game winning goal. 

Both teams finished the rest of the game with great hustle and an excellent show of soccer play through 100 minutes of play.

Brenna Woods logged six saves for P-H (7-7, 7-5 East) and Emma Martin handled 13 shots for M-W (5-7-1, 4-6-1).

In other NAC East action Tupper Lake edged Colton-Pierrepont 2-1, Chateaugay edged Brushton-Moira 2-1 in overtime and St. Regis Falls blanked Norwood-Norfol 2-0).


In NAC Volleyball action at M-W the Yellow Jackets dropped a 26-24, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 four-set series to Malone of the NAC East. "We played a little better tonight." said M-W Coach Troy Creurer.

In other matches Potsdam downed Brushton-Moira 3-0, Salmon River downed Gouverneur 3-0 and OFA topped Tupper Lake 3-0.
