Pirates Down MCS; Bears Deny Wildcats

HARRISVILLE - Quickness to the ball and the boards carried Harrisville (1-1 NAC West) to a 48-28 NAC West Girls Basketball win over Morristown on Tuesday night when a winter storm postponed all but three games on the schedule.

"I played everyone and everyone contributed. We had 21 steals and almost every player got a rebound," said Harrisville Coach Steve Roberts.

"Hannah LaPlatney was all over the floor on defense, Tori Moore continued to lead us on the boards and Harlie Moore led us in scoring."

Harlie Moore scored a game-high 20 points for the Pirates, Tori Moore delivered a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double and Hannah LaPlatney produced six points and six steals. Kira Moore and Chloe Benson added three and two points.

Emma and Rileigh Showers scored eight points apeice for Morristown, Kassidy Sullivan tallied six and Hailey Ward, Carly Piercey and Kaitlyn Ladlee all scored two points.

Canton 55 - Gouverneur 48: The Golden Bears (3-0 NAC) opened a 25-11 first half lead but needed to cope with a tenacious Wildcat comeback in the fourth quarter to prevail in a meeting of NAC Central unbeatens. Gouverneur (3-1) erupted for 21 points in the fourth quarter but the Bears answered with 13 and held the lead sparked by Katie Chisholm (3 3s) and Sarah Sieminski (4 3s) who combined for 20 and 19 points and seven three-pointers on the night.

Lexi Huiatt tallied seven points with Emily Wentworth (4), Gretchen Warner (3) and Ester Shipman (2) rounding out the scoring.

Laney Smith and Raelin Burns each scored nine points for Gouverneur and Shacoria Jackson (3 blocks) and Kaitlyn Gibson followed with eight and seven. Other Wildcat scorers were: Ellen Baer (3), Cierra Besaw (2), Torie Salisbury (4), Shantell Sweet (5) and Makayla Douglass (1).

Chateaugay 36 - Colton-Pierrepont 33: The Bulldogs finished the game on an 18-6 run and came back from a nine-point deficit in the second half to take the lead on an Adrianna Secore free throw with 1:24 to play. Secore (2 points) grabbed 14 rebounds in the game for Chateaugay which was led by 13 points from Chloe Champagne and seven points and 10 rebounds from Ann Bleakley.

Rounding out the scoring were: Julianna Gordon (5), Cammi Champagne (2), Grace Jarvis (3) and Aydanna Adams (4). Jaeliegh Jacot delivered a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for C-P and Alexis Cuthbert and Amber Erwin followed with six and five points. Landree Chamberlain, Emma Clemo and Isabelle Vacarro all scored four points.
