Potsdam Girls Continue Central Title Drive


1n NAC girls soccer action, Potsdam (8-1-1) controlled OFA (2-5-3) 4-0 on Friday, showing why they are currently on top of the league.  Potsdam outshot OFA 21-3.

Kennedy Emerson scored what became the game winning just thirteen minutes into the game.   Luca Pecora was inside the mix and passed the ball back to Emerson who was set up just outside the 18.  Emerson drilled her shot just under the crossbar. In the first half, Potsdam put 10 more shots on goal from 6 different players.  At halftime the score was 1-0.

In the second half, Potsdam came out strong. Thirty seconds into the second half, Sadie Brusso received a pass from the left side of the box. She saw Anilee Akin unmarked 15 yards off the right post.  She made a great pass to Akins who two touched the ball and her chip shot was just under the crossbar to make it 2-0.

Seven minutes later, Emerson dribbled the ball down the right sideline and used her speed to get clear of her defender. She unleashed a 24 yard rocket into the far left post.

A few minutes later, Pecora scored Potsdam’s 4th goal by sprinting past her defenders along the right sideline and headed straight towards the net.  She shot a ball from inside the 6 to the far left post and Laura Dudek drew an assist on the score.

Ava Reynolds scored the last goal of the evening when Emerson, who was 15 yards out on the right side, threaded a pass to Reynolds. Reynolds scored with a shot just inside the left post.  Nine different Potsdam players registered shots on goal.

Megan Saber, Louisa Moosbrugger and Natalie Cowen were rock solid on defense allowing OFA only three shots on their keeper Taylor Benda. Midfielders Sophie Compeau and Laura Dudek controlled play in the center.

STONER UPDATE - Potsdam Coach Joe Stark has related that the Potsdam vs St. Lawrence Central game has been moved to Oct. 21 and the game with Gouverneur postponed by lightning will be played on Oct. 23.

In other NAC Central games on Friday Massena blanked Salmon River 2-0 and Canton checked Malone 2-0.
