Remington II Racers Enjoy Run Through Rapids

Updated: Sep 7

The Remington II Canoe Race offered an uptempo canoe-kayak race from Rensselaer Falls to the Oswegatchie River which provided a touch of a whitewater experience in the second set of the Remington Rapids on Saturday.

Mathew Skeels rocketed through the rapids on his way to the best time of the day in 48:21 and led a very fast K1 Competition class.

Charlie Shene ran from the finish line to the start and then more to get his VirtualBoilermaker run done prior to Rem II and Lynn Short and Mary Kelly ran the Heuvelton Almost 4 Miler route prior to the paddle.

The race noted a first with two dogs in the race. Tony Doer paddled with his dog and Eileen Visser paddled with her. The paddlers and the intrepid pooches all had a great time.

"It was all fun," said Mary Kelly.

Other class leaders were: Bill Jemison and Will Seifried of Potsdam in C2 Men 59:06, Benedict Schimmer and Miranda Robinson of Camillus in C2 Mixed 0:58:34. Martin Duffany of Canton in C1 Men 1:09:39, Eileen Viser of Potsdam in K1 Women 1:00:49, Jason Butterfield of Ogdensburg K1 Rec Men 1:08:02, Adam and Heather Wheeler of Potsdam 0:58:29, Katghleen Ferguson of Liverpool in KM1 Rec Women 2:13:38, Steve and Dellor Dilger of Potsdam in C-2 Mixed 2:13:38, Wayne and Carly Simmons of Heuvelton in Tandem Kayak 1:14:33 and Lynn Short of Canton in C1 Women 1:39:00.
