Roos Climb To 6-1 In NAC Hoops

Canton Quran DuBois and George Nehma posted career-highs in points as the SUNY Canton men’s basketball team used a strong second half surge to earn a 79-63 win v. Husson University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday evening.

DuBois finished with 22 points and Nehma supplied 15 points as the duo both tied their previous career-bests. The win is the fifth straight for the Roos.

The Roos were on fire early going 4-for-4 from three-point range to jump out to a 12-4 lead. The Canton lead extended to as many as 10 (25-15) after a Kahdean Bennett layup with 12:22 to play in the opening half.The Eagles battled back with a 14-4 run to tie the game at 29 with 5:01 left in the first half. SUNY Canton led 37-34 at intermission. DuBois and Juztin Chambers-Phillips led a balanced attack with nine and eight points, respectively. Justice Kendall totaled 10 points for Husson.Canton extended their lead to 51-41 in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Husson cut the lead to three on multiple occasions including as late as 5:34 remaining in the contest (61-58) after a J Thomas jumper.The Eagles were within five late but Canton used a 7-0 run on a Nehma layup, DuBois three-pointer and pair of Danny Santana free throws to seal the win.DuBois led all players with 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting including going 3-for-4 from behind the arc and the charity stripe. Nehma finished with 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting and added four rebounds.Santana chipped in 14 points and five rebounds, while Joseph Werner totaled 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Chambers-Phillips tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.Thomas led the Husson attack with 18 points, while Kendall finished with 10, although he was held scoreless in the second half. Brett Cunningham registered nine points and Derek Collin and Justin Thompson added eight each.The Roos shot 48 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range and held a 44-37 edge in rebounding.

Canton, NY Visiting Husson University got off to a hot shooting start as it earned a 74-45 victory v. the SUNY Canton women’s basketball team on Friday.

Husson came out strong shooting 61 percent in the opening quarter to take a commanding 27-7 lead after 10 minutes. The Eagles extended their lead to 41-13 at intermission.Autumn Watkins had a monster third quarter for the Roos scoring all 13 of the team’s points. As both teams emptied their benches in the fourth quarter the Roos outscored the Eagles, 19-10.Watkins paced the Roos with 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting and added five rebounds and three steals. Autumn Kunes chipped in eight points, while Jeanna Manning added seven.Sydney Allen paced Husson with 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. She made a program record eight three-pointers shooting 8-for-11 from behind the arc.Bailey Donovan added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Vanessa Duarte totaled 13 points for the Eagles.Husson shot 48 percent from the field and a blistering 52 percent (13-for-25) from three-point range. The Eagles outrebounded the Roos 40-27, scored 25 points off Canton turnovers and finished with 25 bench points.
