Roos, Fitch Ranked Among NCAA DIII D Leaders
Indianapolis, IN – The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team and junior Andrew Fitch have been among the best defensively in NCAA Division III so far this season. Through games played February 3rd, 2020 the Roos rank No. 4 in the country in field-goal percentage defense holding opponents to just 37.4 percent shooting for the season (512-for-1,369). During the team’s current eight game winning streak SUNY Canton’s defense has been even stingier holding opponents to just 36 percent (183-for-508). SUNY Canton is currently the No. 1 team in D-III with 126 total blocks and Fitch leads the way as he is second in the nation with 76 total blocks despite missing two contests. The junior is also second in blocked shots per game (4.0). He already owns the NCAA D-III program record for single-season blocks (98) and career blocks (246 and counting). The Roos have been rebounding the ball extremely well as they are fifth in total rebounds (927), sixth in defensive rebounds per game (31.67) and 10th in total rebounds per game (44.14). Joseph Werner ranks 23rd in the country in total rebounds (200) and 32nd in offensive rebounds per game (3.48). The team has been effective guarding the three-point line as sitting at 17th in three-point field goal percentage defense (29.6). Quran DuBois has also been strong defensively as he is 20th in total steals with 47 so far this season.
