Rori McCarthy Skates To Second Place Tie The At State Games Of America

Rori McCarthy is described great person with a great talent and a great work ethic by everyone associated with her in her blossoming figure skating career.
Carrying the Ogdensburg Figure Skating Club to a place of national prominence, Rori tied for second place at the State Games of America on Friday, Aug. 2nd at Liberty University, in Lynchburg, VA.
Rori, who will enter her freshman year at Lisbon Central School in September, tied for second place with Gracie Look of Wisconsin according to Original originals and placed third through an intricate tie-breaker..
Rori is coached by Lauren Morley and competed at the Excel Preliminary level. She qualified for the State Games of America by placing first in the 2018 Empire State Games and third in the 2019 Empire State Games, both held in Lake Placid, NY.
In reaching an elite position on the podium at the State Games of America, Rori follows in the legacy of Ogdensburg native April Sargent who teamed with Russ Witherby to win a Gold Medal in Ice Dancing at the 1992 United States Figure Skating Championship and placed 11th in the Olympic Games. The Sargent-Witherby team claimed a national championship after second place finishes in 1991 and 1990.
"Great work ethic, talent, determination and perseverance have led Rori to this success. The Ogdensburg Figure Skating Club is proud to have Rori putting the club back on the map in national competition and hope it sparks other skaters to strive to compete at this level," says Coach Morley.
"Rori and I have set our sights set on the next State Games of America competition in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2021".
Rori is the daughter of Dan and Autumn McCarthy and granddaughter of Joe and the late Elaine McCarthy, Sue and Ken Loffler and Frank and Cheryl Richardson."
