Salmon River Denies Potsdam For Girls Hockey Title
Top seeded Salmon River claimed the Section 10 Girls Hockey championship with a 4-3 victory over second seed Potsdam at the Clarkson Cheel Center on Saturday. The Shamrocks prevailed over strong Potsdam effort led by Kennedy Emerson's hat trick in a game featuring teams with outstanding records.
Salmon River will move on to the New York State Public High School Association with a 15-0-2 record and Potsdam's season ended at 14-2. Clinton advanced into the states winning the Section 3 championship with a 4-1 win over Skaneateles. The Section 7 title will be decided on Monday in a Plattsburgh High School - Malone Central matchup.
After a scoreless first period, Autumn Benedict fed Hannah Johnson who fired a shot inside the far post to give the Shamrocks a 1-0 lead. Karahwenhawe White set up Olivia Moulton to give SR at 2-0 lead and the margin became 3-0 when Makhira tucked home a centering pass from Rylee Garrow.
Kennedy Emerson pulled Potsdam back into contention scoring on a break-way and on a hard slap shot.
Karli St Ann set up White for Salmon River's fourth goal which proved to be the game winner when the irrepressible Emerson scored her third goal of the game.
