SLU Duo Named DIII Media All-Americans
Seniors Alex Terry and Tyler Burns were named Maverik Men's DIII Media All-Americans as announced by Inside Lacrosse last Friday. Terry earned a spot on the Third Team, while Burns earned Fourth Team honors.
Inside Lacrosse stated: "It was important to recognize the accomplishments of the players. The DIII list is volumous to cover the scope of DIII, featuring four teams plus an honorable mention list."
Last season, Terry, the Saints' starting goalkeeper, topped the conference and finished the year ranked fifth in Division III, with a 7.16 goals against average. He ranked third in the league with a .557 save percentage and sixth with 8.65 saves per game. He caused 10 turnovers and closed the season with 56 ground balls, good for second in the Saints' lineup.
Burns led the Saints with 33 caused turnovers, good for second in the league with 1.94 caused turnovers per game. Burns also picked up 27 ground balls, which ties for sixth on the Saints' squad, and scored one goal this season.
"It's bittersweet to see this list of outstanding lacrosse players across the country recognized in a season that ended so abruptly," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "Alex and Tyler are certainly worthy of being included and have had tremendous careers here. I especially want to thank all the members of the Class of 2020 for all of their contributions to our program over their four years. It did not go unnoticed and will certainly not be forgotten."
The No. 13 Saints opened the 2020 season with a 3-0 start, before COVID-19 warranted the cancellation of spring sports for the remainder of the season. In the three games this season, Terry held a 5.45 goals against average with a .625 save percentage. He had totaled 25 saves, five ground balls and one caused turnover, while Burns added four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
The pair both earned All-America honors in 2019 and were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans at the start of the 2020 season.
