SUNY Canton Athletes Earn Honors

Canton, NY Dawson Pellerin, a sophomore on the men’s soccer team, and Jeremy Gundrum, a sophomore on the men’s cross country team, have been named the first Roos of the Week for the 2019-20 academic year.

Pellerin registered a pair of clean sheets to lead the Roos to an unbeaten weekend as the team went 1-0-1 in a pair of road contests. He made two saves in a 1-0 win v. Wells on Friday. The sophomore followed that up by stopping all four shots he faced in a 0-0 double OT tie on Sunday including one near the end of regulation and a second in overtime. This marks the first time the Roos men's soccer program has been unbeaten through their opening two games since they started the 2014 season 3-0.

Gundrum won the individual title and led the SUNY Canton men’s cross country team to the team title at the NVU-Johnson Invitational on Saturday. He covered the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 11 seconds as he finished 53 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The Roos finished with 23 points defeating second place Paul Smith’s (49) and the third place Badgers (64).

NAC HONORS TO PAIR

Dawson Pellerin and Hanlon Crane have been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men’s and Women’s Soccer Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced on Monday.

Crane assisted the lone goal of the game in the 38th minute to lead the Roos to a 1-0 road win at Wells College to open the season. The assist marked her first career point and the midfielder helped to lead a defense that held the Express with just one shot and no shots on goal over 90 minutes of action. The win is the first season-opening victory for the program since they started the 2015 season unbeaten at 2-0-2.
