SUNY Canton Athletes Honored with Conference Awards
Waterville, ME – Freshman Victoria Hanna, senior Jenna Roat and freshman Ashton Houppert all picked up weekly North Atlantic Conference (NAC) accolades, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Hanna, who was named both the NAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, was outstanding last week combining to make 41 saves over three matches. She opened the week with 16 stops as the Roos fell in the final second, 1-0 to SUNY Potsdam. The rookie made two saves on the last second play before the Bears put home the second rebound as she stopped 11 shots after intermission. On Saturday she keyed a 1-1 double OT tie for the Roos v. Thomas making eight saves including six saves in the second half and overtime periods. The draw was a key result in the NAC opener for the Roos, after falling 3-0 to the Terriers a season ago. Hanna continued her tremendous week upping her career-high save total to 17 as she finished with 17 saves on 19 shots in a 2-0 loss to Brockport. It was a remarkable improvement for the Roos who fell 5-0 to the Eagles last season.
Roat, the NAC Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, had an impressive performance at the Oswego State Tournament as she was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 5.00 digs and 0.67 service aces per set in a 2-1 week for the Roos. She opened the week with match-bests 16 digs and six aces to go with four assists and a pair of kills in a sweep of Elmira. The senior followed that up with 14 digs, four aces and two kills in a sweep of Utica. Roat closed out the week with 15 digs and two aces in a loss to Oswego State.
Houppert, the NAC Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week, had an impressive performance at the Oswego State Tournament as she was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 7.33 assists and 3.00 digs per set in a 2-1 week for the Roos. She opened the week with a match-high 21 assists and added eight digs in a sweep of Elmira. The rookie followed that up with match-bests of 39 assists and 15 digs in a sweep of Utica.
