SUNY Canton Downs Skidmore 3-2

Saratoga Springs, NY Max Routledge found the back of the net twice including the game-winner 29 seconds into the third period to lead the men’s hockey team to a 3-2 road win at Skidmore College on Friday evening.

Brett Bannister opened the scoring at 17:51 of the opening period scoring his first collegiate goal on the power play off the setup from Reily McIntosh. Skidmore, who was receiving votes in the latest USCHO Top 15 Poll, evened the score at one apiece off the stick of Nicolas Stuckless with 38 seconds left in the opening period.Routledge gave the Roos the lead at 8:04 of the middle period off a pass from Sean David.The Thoroughbreds tied the game at two when Matthew Ruutigliano scored his first goal of the season.Routledge put home the Roos second power play goal of the contest 29 seconds into the third period, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. Kyler Matthews and Tyson Bruce earned helpers on the skater advantage score.Michael Cerasuolo made 30 saves in the win for the Roos including 22 saves over the final two periods. Brandon Kasel made 31 stops for the Thoroughbreds.

The men’s hockey team hosts Skidmore as a part of alumni weekend on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Roos House.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

Oswego, NY Sarah Kosnaskie scored her team-leading third goal of the season but the SUNY Canton women’s hockey team dropped a 2-1 road Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) contest at Oswego State on Friday evening.

Defense led the way in the opening period as the teams combined for eight total shots without a goal.The Lakers opened the scoring at the five minute mark of the middle period off the stick of Morgan Shines. The Lakers added a power play goal from Kyleigh Grugin with 3 minutes, 17 seconds left in the second to take a 2-0 lead.Kosnaskie lit the lamp for the third time this season with the Roos on the power play at 6:23 of the third. Verity Lewis and Alexa Parigi picked up helpers on the play.The Roos had 48 seconds of a power play late in the period and pulled Brooke Susac for the extra skater with 45 seconds remaining. Micayla Macintyre recorded a late shot that was blocked by the Laker defense.Susac finished with 29 saves for the Roos including 17 in the second period, while Tia Trovato turned aside 14 shots for Oswego.

The Roos return to the ice on Saturday when they host Morrisville State at 4 p.m.
