SUNY Canton Volleyball Seeded Second For NAC Playoffs

Waterville, ME Following an unbeaten weekend in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play, the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team has earned the two seed in the upcoming playoffs with a 5-1 record in NAC play.

Maine Maritime (22-3, 6-0 NAC) claimed the top spot and rights to host the semifinal and championship with a 22-3 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record within conference play.

SUNY Canton will square off with the three seed NVU-Johnson (13-11, 4-2 NAC), while the Mariners will host the four seed SUNY Delhi (12-13, 3-3 NAC).

Both semifinal matches will take place on Saturday, November 9th. The winners will play for the championship on Sunday, November 10th. Game times will be determined on Monday.

Semifinals - Saturday, November 9 (at #1 Maine Maritime)

SUNDAY SWEEP

The SUNY Canton women’s volleyball team swept NVU-Johnson and NVU-Lyndon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Sunday to finish the season 5-1 in conference play.

The Roos defeated the Badgers 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) before upending the Hornets 3-0 (25-6,2 5-24, 25-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Math 1: The opening set was a back-and-forth affair knotted at 21 apiece but the Roos scored four of the final five points to take the first set, 25-22.Host NVU-Johnson jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second but Canton battled back to lead 12-8. Once again the set was tied late at 19 all but a late 6-2 spurt closed out the second frame, 25-21 for the visitors.The Roos led 8-2 and 16-12 in the third before the Badgers rattled off six straight points to take an 18-16 advantage. Canton used a late run and scored the final three points off errors from Johnson to earn the sweep, 25-23.Tatum Lafrance led the team with six kills, while Marissa Ixtlahuac and Melissa McMaster added five kills apiece. McMaster produced a match-best five blocks, Jenna Roat totaled a match-high 12 digs and Ashton Houppert and Brynna Harris added 13 and nine assists, respectively.

Match 2: The Roos cruised in their second match winning by scores of 25-6, 25-4, 25-3.Gabrielle Durant led the offense with six kills, while Ixtlahuac added five. Shaylyn DeVito and Harris tallied four kills each with Harris pinpointing a match-best nine service aces.Camryn Smeatin chipped in five aces, while Houppert added 12 assists and four aces. Peyton Nadeau registered nine digs and Katie Kullack added three aces.
