SUNY Potsdam Ladies Picked Fourth In SUNYAC Soccer
CORTLAND, N.Y.-The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the upcoming season. Defending champs SUNY Geneseo was selected to repeat, while SUNY Cortland and Plattsburgh State were tabbed to finish second and third, respectively.
The Bears enter 2019 with 16 veterans and 10 newcomers. Offensively, the team returns six of its top-10 scorers from a year ago. Potsdam is very experienced at midfield and returns both of its starting goalkeepers.
The Bears are coming off two straight SUNYAC Playoff appearances after finishing fourth in 2017 and third last fall. Under the guidance of nine-year head coach Mark Misiak and third year assistant and former captain Kaylen Van Wagner '17, Potsdam has posted a 26-10-3 overall record and an 11-5-1 conference mark in the last two campaigns. Last season, the Bears downed Fredonia for their first SUNYAC playoff victory and reached the conference semifinals for the first time in program history.
The Bears open the season on Friday at 3 p.m. when they take on Alfred University in the first round of the D'Youville College Spartan Classic in Buffalo. Potsdam has won the tournament in each of the last two seasons.
