CANTON - The SUNY Canton women's hockey team will play a 25 game regular season schedule that includes 13 home contests in their first season in the Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL).
The Roos schedule features three games each against the other six members (Buffalo State, SUNY Cortland, Morrisville State, Oswego State, Plattsburgh State, SUNY Potsdam) of their new conference home during the 2019-20 season. With 18 NEWHL games the team opens the campaign with eight straight league games. The Roos start on the road at SUNY Cortland (11/1) and Morrisville State (11/2). The team hosts the Red Dragons (11/8) and Buffalo State (11/9) in their first home contests of the season.
SUNY Canton is on the road for its next two including a November 16th showdown with defending national champion, Plattsburgh State, a team that has won five of the last six NCAA Division III national championships. The Roos close out the first semester with home conference games v. the Mustangs (11/23) and Oswego State (12/6).
For the fourth consecutive season Canton will start the new calendar year taking part in the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational. The tournament field includes host Castleton, Buffalo State and Northland College.
Following the trip to Vermont, the Roos have three non-conference contests including a pair at home v. Franklin Pierce (1/10) and the University of New England (1/11) before returning to league action with a home-and-home series v. Plattsburgh State (1/17, 1/18 – home).
Other second semester home contests include SUNY Potsdam (1/22, 2/12), Buffalo State (2/8), Anna Maria College (2/14-15) and Oswego State (2/22). The Roos will look to qualify for the NEWHL Playoffs in their first year in the league. The top four teams from the regular season will qualify with the semifinals and finals being hosted by the higher seed on February 29th and March 7th, respectively.
