Thayer Named SUNY Canton Softball Coach

CANTON – Four-time NCAA Division III All-American Lindsey Thayer, who is also the all-time leader in NCAA D-III strike outs, has been named the next head coach of the SUNY Canton softball program, as announced by Athletic Director Randy B. Sieminski on Friday. Thayer, a St. Lawrence Central graduate, was a four-year pitcher for St. John Fisher College and a team captain. She is the D-III all-time strikeouts leader with 1,540 averaging nearly two strike outs per inning for her career. “Lindsey knows what it takes to compete and lead at a national championship level,” Sieminski said. “We are excited she is bringing those qualities and expertise to our softball program to continue her coaching career. Her knowledge of the North Country and NCAA Division III will be a great resource.” Thayer was a four-time All American, four-time Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year, and 18-time Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week. She finished her Fisher career with a 107-29 record with a 0.94 earned run average and led the Cardinals to two appearances at the D-III World Series with a runner-up and third place finish. Following graduation Thayer spent last year as the junior varsity softball head coach and the varsity basketball assistant coach at her alma mater, St. Lawrence Central. While overseeing the Larries she coordinated practice plans, oversaw travel plans, made executive decisions on starters and substitutions and coordinated a work out plan to promote a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, she was an algebra teacher’s assistant at the school. Thayer also has experience as a Management Trainee with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and as a sales pro with BSN Sports. “I am beyond excited and thankful for this opportunity to be joining the Roo Family,” Thayer said. “Being a leader of a team is much more than planning practices and producing wins. I am looking forward to impacting the lives of my student-athletes and seeing how they can change mine. I want to thank the Athletic department for giving me this opportunity and am looking forward to continuing my coaching career at SUNY Canton.”

Thayer is CPR/AED and First Aid certified. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from St. John Fisher College. She has also served as a Human Resource Intern at Jamestown Container and a Healthcare Recruiter at TES Staffing, both in Rochester.
