Thunder Selects Enjoy Memorable Softball Season

The St. Lawrence Thunder 18U Selects Softball team recently completed an outstanding 2020 summer-fall season competing in elite tournaments in New York and Pennsylvania.

Team, coached by Cory Tanner of Hammond, finished with a 49-19-3 record. A pair of sophomores in Hammond's Sydney Tanner (30-11) and Delany Wiley (8-0) of Thousand Islands Central combined to to 38 games.

Offensively six palyers batted .400 or better: Alexis Durocher of Fabius Pompey .500, Danielle Filapello of Cicero-North Syracuse .441 , Delaney Wiley of Thousand Islands .539, Ranasia Bailey of APW .479, Jailynn Patchen of Central Square .454 and Kiannah Ward of Carthage .458.

Alivia Turk of APW batted .390 with five homeruns, 11 triples and nine doubles with 48 RBIs and 42 runs and Kiannah Ward belted three homeruns and six triples while scoring 48 runs and driving in 27 runs leading the power production.

Sydney Tanner was the lone Section 10 player on the Selects who featured several players from the Frontier League and some talented performers from Central New York.

Highlighting the achievements of the team were: third place in the USSSA Father’s Day Spectacular (Chambersburg,Pa), fifth place in the Indiana County 18U Showcase (Indiana University Pa), Second in the Champions Nationals (Oswego,NY), Second in the Monster Bash (Jersey Shore,Pa) and Semi finalist finish in the the Cling to Spring (Easton,Pa), the Fastballs and Fireworks (Williamsport,Pa), the State College Invitational (Penn State University), the Battle at Barker Champions (Syracuse,NY) and the USSSA Field of Screams Champions 18U National Qualifier (Quakertown,Pa).
