Tom-Doc Prevail In Close Finish In 2-Man Senior Golf League

The race in the Men's Senior Two-Man Golf League at the St. Lawrence Park finished the same way it started on Monday. With a group of teams bunched at the top of the standings.

Tom Cobb and Doc Shea claimed the league title with 62.5 points just one-half point ahead of Bill Taylor and Mel Fitchette at 62. Bob Simpson and Howard Quinn and Joe Tracy and Warren Putman both finished at 60 and Wally Boyer and Jerry McRoberts rounded out the top five at 59.5.

Tom Cobb took medalist honors at 37 and Mel Fitchette carded a 39.

Steve Bateman (10-16) and Mel Fitchette (14-16) both recorded two birdies on the day with Bateman dropping his towering tee shot on the 10th hole within an inch of the cup.

The league season will conclude with a captain and crew tournament on Monday morning.

Standings: Doc-Tom 62.5, Bill-Mel 62, Bob-Howard 60, Joe-Warren 60, Wally-Jerry 59.5, Gary-Dick 55, Dick-Henry 53, Steve-Mike 52, Pete-Ron 51.5, Ken-Joe 347.5, Carl-Jr 44.5, Ken-Art 40.5.

Low Rounds: Tom Cobb 37, Mel Fitchette 39, Bob Simpson 40, Gary Guimond 41, Dick Wilson 41, Jerry McRoberts 42, Doc Shea 42, Bill Taylor 43, Ron Rickett 43.

Birdies: Kenny Kendall 14, Steve Bateman 10-16, Tom Cobb 14, Bob Simpson 16, Mel Fitchette 14, 16.
