Wade's Goal Sparks SLU Ladies Past Clarkson

CANTON - Senior Emily Wade scored 23 seconds into the game to help lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Clarkson in Liberty League play on Tuesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

With the win, the Saints improved to 11-3 on the season and 6-2 in conference play and currently rank second in the Liberty League standings with 18 points.

Julia Mulhern, who recorded her fifth assist of the season, fed Wade just outside the 8-yard box to put the Saints on the board.

Lauren Arthaud picked up the rebound from a Golden Knights' defender and sank a shot in the top-right corner to lift the Saints lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute of play.

"I thought our team played well, but we took a little time to get into the swing of the things," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "Our second half showed improvement and there were some outstanding individual performances from our midfield, particularly Kira, Maddy and Keelin. They have a maturity about them that has enabled them to get better and better as the season progresses and that is not normally something you see this time of year. We look forward to Saturday and our recovery in between."

Giulia Mahoney led Clarkson with three shots on goal, but the Golden Knights fell to 9-7-1 overall and 2-6-0 in league play.

Goalkeepers Samantha Allen and Cynnie White shared time in goal for the Saints. Allen recorded four saves, while White made one. Emma Timerman finished with six saves for the Golden Knights.

St. Lawrence outshot Clarkson 16-9 and held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The Saints will face No. 2 William Smith on senior day, Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m.
