Wildcats Down OFA For 101st Straight Win

BY DAVE SHEA

Forfeits created a mini-match situation in Monday's NAC Wrestling match between OFA and Gouverneur.

And have they done for over 12 seasons the 6-0 Wildcats controlled the action with a 48-30 winto extend their NAC Dual Meet Winning Streak to 101.

The Wildcats won five of the six matches wrestled on Monday and all six of the matches were decided by fall.

The highlight match of the night featured a pair of reigning Section 10 Champions who entered the Section 10 100-Win Circle earlier this season in OFA's Tristan Richardson and Joseph Cummings who squared off at 160. Both wrestlers were recently honored as the Section 10 Wrestlers of the Week after winning weight class title at prestigious tournaments.

Cummings ended the uptempo affair by pinning Richardson with 12 seconds remaining in regulation.

Wildcat sophomore Carter Baer, who also reached 100 Career Wins earlier this season, pinned Dylan Moran in the first period of the 152-pound match and Mitchell Shippee stopped Xavier Stewart in the first period of the 170-pound match.

Gouverneur's other pins came by Tyler Tupper who stopped Blake Hall in the first period at 195 pounds and Trayton Tupper who used a quick pinning combination to gain a second period pin over a strong effort by Robert Downey. At the time of the fall Tupper held an 11-7 lead.

OFA's lone win came in a fine lightweight matchup where OFA freshman Brayden Wall gained a third period pin over Zoe Griffith who recently took first place at the Eastern States Girls Wrestling Tournament as a seventh grader. Wall gained a near fall in the first period and held a 7-3 lead at the time of the pin.

OFA (0-6) will complete its regular season hosting Canton and Massena on Wednesday and will also host the Section 10 Championships one week from Friday starting at 5 p.m.

"Brayden Wall got a nice win tonight and Tristan Richardson and Rob Downey wrestled well against very good opponents. But they have to work at keeping their hips down," said OFA Coach Bill Mitchell.

"We have a lot of work to do."

Archie Green at 220, Joey George at 285, Adam Calton at 132 and Mitchell McCarthy at 120 all received forfeits for OFA. Receiving forfeits for Gouverneur were: VanDavian Way at 138, Kobe Steorts at 145 and Hunter Mashaw at 99.

OFA's Tristan Richardson and Gouverneur's Joseph Cummings met in a match of 100-win wrestlers in Monday's match at OFA.
